These fluorescent camping lanterns from General Electric (GE) are dependable, rugged outdoor lanterns. They feature a durable plastic housing, a high impact plastic diffuser, and a comfortable carrying handle. Two models are available, an 8-D and a 4-D. The 8-D's power source are eight "D" cell batteries (not included) with two 4 watt fluorescent tubes as the light source. The 4-D model's power source are four "D" cell batteries (not included) with the light source being one 6 watt fluorescent U-tube. The lanterns are water resistant and, in fact, can float for a period of time if accidentally dropped in the water. Of course, with no open flame or fuel to deal with, they are very safe alternatives to kerosene lighting.
